Why is domain age checked?
Very newly registered domains are disproportionately used for short-lived phishing and scam campaigns, so registration age is a widely used contextual risk signal in domain-reputation scoring.
Is an old domain automatically more trustworthy?
No. Domain age is a contextual signal, not proof of legitimacy -- a long-registered domain can be compromised, sold, or repurposed for abuse, and both old and newly registered domains can be used maliciously.
Is a newly registered domain suspicious?
Not by itself -- legitimate new businesses and projects register new domains constantly. It only becomes more meaningful in combination with other findings from this score, such as an active blocklist listing.
How much should domain age affect a security assessment?
