RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) is the modern, structured-JSON successor to the old text-based WHOIS protocol, standardized by the IETF and adopted as the required lookup protocol for gTLD registries and registrars.
Why look up the authoritative server via ICANN's bootstrap registry instead of a generic redirector?
Querying the domain's own registry's authoritative RDAP server directly (found via ICANN's official bootstrap file) is more reliable than depending on a single third-party redirector, which can rate-limit or go down independently.
What does this check actually show?
The registrar of record and other registration metadata RDAP exposes for the domain -- it's descriptive registration information, not a reputation or abuse signal.
